The South African Bureau of Standards develops and maintains South African National Standards through National Technical Committees.
These technical committees are a representative sample of the industry in which the standardization activities are carried out. It is therefore crucial for the public to be involved in the activities of the Standards development, to ensure that the final output represents the views of the entire South African community. As a signatory to the WTO/TBT agreement, South Africa follows the provisions of Annex 3 of the said agreement, whereby a comment period of 60 days for public enquiry is required.
